The probability of the use of chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear (CBRN) material as a weapon by rouge states and terrorists remains a real concern for Governments who continue to fund technological research and procure specialist capability in order to improve their ability to prevent and mitigate the effects of such attacks.
Many organisations including the military as well as civilian emergency services and the myriad of other civilian response agencies require specialist CBRN advice as they develop their capability to respond to such events. Equally those responsible for critical national infrastructure and venues where large numbers of people gather (e.g. transport systems, sporting and cultural venues and shopping centres) require authoritative CBRN advice as they consider what they need to do to mitigate the effects of a CBRN incident and what their response to such events should be. Furthermore, business developing capability and equipment for the Armed Forces, as well as for certain civilian uses, need to ensure that they take into account the CBRN dimension by considering the effects of CBRN on the capability and determining whether they need to introduce special measures to mitigate these effects in order to maintain operational effectiveness.
Recruiting CBRN subject matter expert who understand the challenges all these organisations face is a difficult decision. How can their unique skills be utilised full-time to justify the expense? One option is to seek outside specialist CBRN expertise on an as required basis as it removes these employment issues, prevents unnecessary investment of money and resource and ensures that the advice that is available is both accurate and up-to-date.
Watership Associates is an association of CBRN professionals and CBRN orientated business professionals who are available to provide specialist CBRN advice to any organisations.
